What's your educational
background? |
|
| |
Philippe studied fashion at the
Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris.
He was an intern at haute couture Houses Lacroix & Lemarie,
assisted in catwalk shows for Chanel, Lacroix,
Mugler & Yves St Lauren and finally was personal
assistant to Gilles Rozier at Kenzo. In 2001 he
moved to Morocco (North Africa) & set up a
design lab which enabled & encouraged creative
collaborations with highly skilled local craftsmen
of the region & encouraged them to develop
their traditional skills to suit modern design.
The bonds brought about by this mutual trading
of knowledge & skills would last long after
his return to Paris, where he worked for a time
as a photostylist & assistant for Marcel Marongiu & Jean-Paul
Gaultier before creating the accessories label
Claramonté in 2004.
Pierre studied product design at the Ecole La Martiniere
Terreaux in Lyon. His first job was assistant designer
for TSE in Paris where he worked closely with Sigolene
Prebois & Catherine Levis. Their oneiric (dreamlike)
vision of the world influenced Pierre's work profoundly & shifted
his purified & sober design thinking toward a
more intricate, warm humoured approach where Industrial
design & Craftsmanship combine to add narrative & lightness
of being to the objects he creates. He worked on
several influential interior design projects in & around
Paris before meeting & joining forces with Philppe
in 2004 where together they design accessories for
the Claramonté brand. |

What is the concept
of your label? |
|
| |
Claramonté draws inspiration from
the exotic fabrics & intricate embroidery of
North African nomadic cultures and the elegant
motifs of Japan & the Orient. Their influence
is non exclusive however as design inspiration
will follow wherever their passion & fertile
imagination travels. The prototypes are naturally
created in collaboration with the exceptionally
skilled artisans of North Africa using their traditional
techniques of weaving & broidery, though the
heritage of the finished product is reinterpreted,
transformed & implemented through Phillippe
Bertrands innovatively contemporary sensibility & vision. |

What message do
your creations send? |
|
| |
Traditional, tribal design is touched
with contemporary allure through the dynamic play
of colour & contrast of design from smartly
edgy to timelessly chic. |
